Pretty Little Weekend

College football is a huge deal in our town. So huge, in fact, that we planned the wedding around the schedule because there would be no way our out-of-town guests could get hotel rooms on a game day weekend, or park their cars for that matter. (Or any guarantee they'd pick our wedding over the game!)

For those of you not familiar with Ole Miss, we do not, in fact, tailgate. We grove. We grove in high heels and cocktail dresses and drink Bloody Marys out of Solo cups under our tents.  One tent even has a little Lyceum thing (the campus' main building), and each of the columns is a different draft beer tap. There are goats and chandeliers and catered tents and the works.

This year, we've had so much going on that we haven't made it to a Grove, primarily because we lost our tent last year. By lost I mean that no one in our little groving group showed up to break it down and campus police probably confiscated it. Who knows? All I know is we are sans tent.

But this weekend, Andrew's parents, sister (bridesmaid Michelle) and her boyfriend were in town, so we headed over to campus (first at 6 a.m. in the morning to park the car in a good spot) around lunchtime. It was a wonderful time, but as an Ole Miss alumni, Nurse A and I committed two crimes:

1.) We tailgated with Auburn fans (just kidding--I love the in-laws!) and 2.) We actually tailgated, like with an actual car.

And while I wore jeans (I guess that's crime number three), Sawyer certainly dressed the part of an Ole Miss dog. I consider this Halloween costume numero uno.

In my defense we were not in the Grove, so I was not required to dress in Grove wear. I was quite thrilled to have a chance to wear my new boots and take pictures!

Our circle of chairs. The weather was perfect!

Nurse A and dad with the pupster.

Michelle and Z.A.--we were outnumbered by Auburn fans!

Look at that classy Labrahound.

The best part of tailgating? The food, of course.

After everyone else left for the football game, Nurse A and I went out for beer with our free draft beer coupons we got at the liquor store. 'Cause we're classy like that. And poor.

Saturday was also our year engagement anniversary, and we celebrated by dressing Sawyer in his second costume, courtesy of the Fashionable Wife. While her pups cooperated swimmingly (as seen here), Sawyer the Sharkdog protested.

He's a chef!

We went for a nice walk on Sunday at the park.

Wow, I take pictures of my dog a lot.
I know it's Tuesday, but I hope everyone had a great weekend!

  3. Sawyer is just TOO cute! And my school's tailgating was like the Ole Miss grove or whatever. PS I worked with someone in NYC one summer who was Miss Ole Miss in 2006 I believe? I really enjoyed all her stories!

  4. We were just tailgating yesterday for my husband's cousin's football game and it was a blast. I really think it must be a southern thing but everyone else is missing out!
